PROTEC

Protec is a non-profit NGO that provides high quality Maths, Science and Technology (MST) education and career development programmes in previously disadvantaged educational districts. The aim of PROTEC is to increase the number of Matric school leavers with the interest and ability to enter careers in Science, Engineering and Technology, in order to increase the pool of technically skilled South Africans.

Although a small registration fee is charged - to encourage commitment from the learners - tuition, learning materials and books are provided free.

In KwaZulu-Natal, FFS sponsors the PROTEC Inanda/ Ntuzuma/ KwaMashu (INK) branch as well as the PROTEC Tongaat branch.

The Tongaat branch learners come from 11 feeder schools in the area and the INK branch learners come from 24 feeder schools in the area. Classes are restricted to a maximum of 40 pupils in each grade. PROTEC's dedicated tutors include university and college lecturers, current and retired teachers, as well as a registered career counsellor.
