PROTEC

FFS also sponsors a branch of Protec in Inanda. Protec is a non-profit organisation providing an outreach program to previously disadvantaged schools to foster and improve the standard of science and mathematics. The schools participating in FFS Refiners’ venture are currently Ohlange High, Amandlethu High, Amaooti No.3 High, Mbeki High and Inanda Comprehensive. 10 Students from each school were chosen this year. The classes are conducted by Dr. Joseph Kioko, the branch co-ordinator, and assisted by honours student Buhle Mzimela and masters student Sibongiseni Phakathi, both from the University of KZN. Learning materials and books are provided. As part of the Protec syllabus the learners are assisted in preparing a project for presentation at the EXPO.
