OVERVIEW
The
Pietermartizburg plant has two main activities:
Solvent
recycling/recovery/laundering,
and the production of a high quality light
fuel oil made from used lubricating oil.
In addition, the plant produces
coating oils for granulated fertilizer.

Light Oil 10 (LO10). This is a low ash, low

FEEDSTOCKS
The
Pietermaritzburg plant's primary feedstocks are:
Solvents
-
Waste solvents from paint production plants.

Alcohols contaminated with water.
-
Rolling oils used in the production of aluminium
sheets.
Oil
-
Used lubricating oils.
-
Light and middle distillate oils, from the Sasol
synthetic fuels plant.
-
Naphthas, which are light paraffinic (C5-C12)
hydrocarbon by-products from the Petroleum Industry.
EFFLUENT TREATMENT
The aqueous effluent is processed through a comprehensive
water effluent plant, which includes a dissolved air flotation oil separator as
a final stage and then disposed of into the Municipal sewer.
QUALITY CONTROL
The Pietermaritburg plant has a well equipped laboratory which
is able to do standard oil tests, such as viscosity, flash and pour point, ash,
matter insoluble in toluene (MIT) and water content. A gas chromatograph is used
for solvent quality control.
ENVIRONMENTAL
This plant has SANS ISO 14001 accreditation for its
environmental management system.
