New Storage Tanks to replace
Underground Storage Tanks
FFS Refiners through their ISO 14001 environmental management system identified the need to remove the existing underground storage tanks (total combined capacity of 960m3 ) with 1000m3 (4 x 250m3) of above ground storage in an effort to improve the environmental control and management of used oil and product storage tanks.
500m3 of the underground storage tank space is used for storm water management and the remaining underground storage tanks cleaned out and filled with concrete or sand as per Fire Prevention and Flammable Liquids and Substances bylaw. The replacement of these tanks enables better control in terms of filling, integrity and storage. The tanks are bunded as per SANS 10089 and foam canons have been strategically placed to ensure that if a fire should occur that it can be adequately controlled. The replacement of tanks enables FFS Refiners to continue their environmentally beneficial service of re-processing used oils which would otherwise have been dumped in landfills. |
